Where it started

Nathan Young was only 20 years old when he tragically lost his life in a motorcycle accident in Louisville, Kentucky. An ambitious mechanic at Barnes Auto Service and a proud graduate of Southern High School’s auto program, Nathan was known for his love of cars, especially his C5 Corvette, and for the way he brought people together within the local car community.

In the days following his passing, Nathan’s brother Sean and his closest friends organized a car show to support the Young family. Planned in just three days, the 2022 show exceeded every expectation - nearly 200 cars and more than 500 attendees filled Southern High School’s lot. The support from the Kentuckiana car community was overwhelming.

What started as a fundraiser quickly became something more.

In 2023, the show returned, this time with a new purpose. After meeting with Southern High School’s administration, we realized we had an opportunity to make a lasting impact. Funds raised would go toward purchasing fully-loaded professional toolboxes for graduating auto-program students, helping remove the financial barrier to entering the industry.

That year, two students received $1,200 toolboxes, one for Maintenance & Light Repair and one for Collision & Body Work.

Since then, the Never Say Goodbye Car Show has continued to grow. Held every year on the Sunday before Labor Day at Southern High School, the event now serves two purposes: bringing the community together in Nathan’s honor and equipping the next generation of automotive professionals with the tools they need to succeed.

What began as a moment of tragedy has become a movement of opportunity, remembrance, and community support.
